Soft skills are roughly defined as the capacity and ability of an individual to adapt to changing circumstances. A soft skill is a personal attribute that supports situational awareness and enhances an individual's ability to get a job done. Soft skills include any skill that can be classified as a personality trait or habit. In short, they encompass emotionally-based non-curricular skills that are not generally measurable.
Soft skills training are important to students because they enable students to adjust to the frustrations and challenges they will encounter in their adult life, as well as the demands of work. Mastering soft skills help students learn, live and work better.
Don Bosco College Mannuthy are slowly realizing the need to implement soft skills training in our institution. The reason behind this is because students today are still being trained to perform scientific experiments, calculate formulas, and to write essays. In order to be efficient and successful in work and life, student has to embrace the soft skills like Adaptability, Information management, Collaboration, Communication, Leadership, Critical thinking, Problem solving and Creativity.
Communication is an important skill for every modern student to master. Advances in digital media, changing career landscapes, and greater competition in colleges and workplaces makes improving student communication skills a must. Communication and language development are about more than talking. It means all the different ways a student understands and communicates, only part of which are spoken words.
Communication skills are needed for students in our college to interact with or collaborate with the professors, administrators and other students effectively, read and understand class assignments and test questions effectively, present a class project in front of others effectively.
Life skills are important for everyone, particularly for our students coming from various lived experiences, financial situations, and ability levels. They may lack more basic skills that they'll need for employment or to navigate the challenging aspects of adult life. Effectively managing time and being responsible are adult life skills that college graduates need to successfully navigate not only their careers, but their personal lives as well.
Practicing life skills leads to qualities such as self-esteem, sociability and tolerance, competencies to take action and generate change, and the capability to have the freedom to decide what to do and who to be. These are the skills that one needs, to make the most out of life.
ICT skills are about understanding and applying a range of computer programs, software and other applications. These include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, power points and search engines.
Computers and computer devices have grown to hold key roles in schools colleges, homes and the workplace. Through the enhancement programs Our Students learn skills such as sending emails, conducting Internet research, creating word processing documents and creating presentations. These basic computer skills help students to achieve success in college when they are utilized for processing and presenting information.
