Women Cell
The Women’s cell at Don Bosco College, Mannuthy, was started with the aim of
equipping and empowering women to recognize their true potential and to help them
attain their own stand in a competing world. The main objectives of the cell include
enhancing self-esteem and self-confidence among women students and staff. The cell
aims at creating awareness and provides a platform for women to share their
experiences and views regarding their status in the society and to suggest ways to
improve and empower themselves. The cell facilitates women’s empowerment
through lectures, seminars, awareness programmes and welfare activities. The cell
provides a conducive counseling environment for the female gender to share their
issues. The Cell also tries to incorporate hygiene habits and ensure a healthy
atmosphere in and around the college. It tries to equip them with the knowledge of
their legal rights and redressal of their grievances. To facilitate speedy delivery of
justice, meetings are organized regularly. The counselling cell processes oral and
written complaints. Time to time the cell conducts seminars and lectures by specialists
and eminent personalities to stop violence against women, sexual harassment at work
and about health, hygiene etc.
Objectives
- To create social awareness about the problems of women and gender discrimination.
- To develop the self-confidence of Women.
- To give guidance about Women Welfare Laws.
- To assert the importance of spiritual, economic, social, racial and gender equality.
- To highlight the importance of health and hygiene.
- To direct Women’s role in the society.
- To organize seminars, workshops relating to women development.
- To prevent sexual harassment and to promote general well-being of female students,
teaching and non-teaching women staff of the College.
- To resolve issues pertaining to girls’/women’s sexual harassment.
- A Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell has been formed to resolve issues
To equip the female students, faculty and staff members with knowledge of their legal
rights.
- To safeguard the rights of female students, faculty and staff members.
- To provide a platform for listening to complaints and redressal of grievances.
- To ensure personality as well as academic development of students.
Complaint Procedure
Students report their grievance to the Mentor/Grievance Cell/Women Cell through systems already in place for the same.
The committee follows the protocol and resolves the issue with interventions at various levels as required by the situation.
Any member found to have harassed another member or guest will be subject to appropriate disciplinary procedure, including reprimands, suspension or termination of membership, even of the college.
Complaint and Redressal mechanism
After knowing the grievance of students, class Mentor discusses it with the HOD and then an appropriate solution is found out. If not solved at this level, then grievance is taken up to the Principal and legal advisor.
The complainant shall be summoned to hear complaints (if necessary).
After hearing of complaints, the committee shall take appropriate decision.
GENDER EQUITY PROGRAMS
We have Cell, this is for, to create social awareness about the problems of women and in particular regarding gender discrimination, to develop the self confidence of Women, to guide about Women Welfare Laws, to assert the importance of spiritual, economic, social, racial and gender equality, to highlight the importance of health and hygiene, to organize seminars, workshops relating to women development, to prevent sexual harassment and to promote general well-being of female students of the College. The programs organized by the Women cell includes the following.
Women cell Inauguration by Ms .Najeema ( HAS Physical science Kerala agriculture university. 'Need for Women Leadership in Science & Technology' were addressed.
Self Defense program for women (27/08/2019)
Seminar On Women Hygiene (21/01/2020). Menstrual hygiene management were addressed.
Inauguration of Women Cell on 5th November 2018 by Dr.Rejitha (In-charge Ollukkara health centre) program.

WOMEN SAFETY AND SECURITY
Safety of girls is a top priority at every college campus. Nowadays safe and supportive campus community is both and obligation and a challenge for college administrators and students. Our college provide a comprehensive range of security amenities especially for girls within the premises, through a dedicated team of security personnel. Programs like ‘Women’s Campus Safety Program’ included in the existing curriculum, such programs have an intrinsic potential to create awareness not only amongst the students but also of the campus. CCTV cameras strategically placed in every corner of the building to ensure the safety and well being of students.

COUNSELLING
Amongst the increasing rate of mental health issues amongst adolescents, College is one of the pioneering institutions which has taken the initiative to establish a Counseling Cell within its premise. We have a trained Clinical Psychologist who is competent in catering to the personal and academic issues of students. The job of the Counselor entails the following: The Counseling Centre provides services both for personal and career counseling. The Counselor regularly visits the classes for observation wherein the Counselorin cohesion with the teachers identifies students possibly in need of counseling. The Counselor along with the teacher provides appointments to the students and, if required, the parents for helping the students in the identified problem areas. The students are free to meet the counselor with permission from their teacher for career guidance.
Mentor Mentee Relationship
All students (mentees) are assigned a mentor (faculty or staff). Mentors meet mentee frequency based on the needs of the mentee. To resolve day to day academic problems of the students, mentoring sessions are organized. This is a continuous process until the end of the academic career of the students. During the last semester of studies, girl students are advised for higher studies along with proper career guidance without that it will be likely to get married. The objectives are mainly to monitor the students' regularity and discipline, to enable the students to know about the performance and regularity of their wards, improvement of teacher student relationship that helps the girl students in various aspects, counselling students for solving their problems and provide confidence to improve their quality of life.
DAY CARE CENTRE FOR YOUNG CHILDRENS
Day care center provide the teachers, officers, non-teaching staff and regular full-time students of the College (and the premises) the facility of keeping their children under good care during the day time right inside the campus.
COMPLAINT REGISTER
We have a complaint register where the students can drop in a note regarding any harassment faced by them on premises or on the way to the college. The aim is to provide a safe and secure atmosphere in the college. Also we have a Complain Box and students can email their Complaints or suggestions to women cell to the E-mail ID [email protected]
